Ocean's 8 at Brownstone Billiards

Park Slope

Strangely renamed Ocean's 8 At Brownstone Billiards, this subterranean haunt stands at the vertex of Prospect Heights and Park Slope and represents the only real game in town for folks who want to rack a few games of pool without cueing up being the guys who've held the single table at the bar for the last two hours. With thirty billiard tables, waiting isn't much of an issue, and on the occasions it is a problem, there are six ping pong tables, two bowling alleys, and other games to pleasantly bide your time.

Gallow Green

Chelsea

McKittrick Hotel's seasonal rooftop bar, featuring an aeroponic garden and a menu of dishes like cold fried chicken. Perfect for a post-Sleep No More drink!

Magnet Theater

Chelsea

Magnet is an improvisational comedy theater and improv school in New York City. Located a few blocks below Madison Square Garden in Chelsea, Magnet offers audiences great comedy shows consistently recommended by critics, tourists, locals, comedy snobs, and people looking for a great cheap date. Plus, there's beer and wine.

Brooklyn Winery

Williamsburg

Winery and wine bar serving their own in-house vintages and other wines from around the world.

Comic Strip

Upper East Side

Comic Strip Live was born on a Monday night in May of 1975 by Richard Tienken, John McGowan and Robert Wachs. Originally the Comic Strip featured comics, singers, magicians and novelty acts, but they later converted into a 100% stand up comedy club. New York Magazine calls Comic Strip Live "the most expertly booked club in the city." Their first big star was box office legend Eddie Murphy. Eddie in turn discovered Chris Rock at The Comic Strip one night. Television Superstar Jerry Seinfeld also worked for many years at the Comic Strip. More major stars have started their careers at the Comic Strip than any other venue in the world. Some legendary examples include: Adam Sandler, Carol Leifer, , Colin Quinn, Susie Essman, Jimmy Brogan, Nancy Parker, Larry Miller, Angel Salazar, Sarah Silverman, and many more.

Professor Thom's

East Village

Named for the "father of the cocktail," Professor Thom's offers a huge 41-foot bar and nearly twenty flat screen televisions for college and professional sports.

The Football Factory at Legends

Chelsea

The focus here is on football, and not that odd egg shaped thing that yanks like to toss around (thus the term "tosser"), indeed, it is the round thing that Brazilians kick around in a manner that Englishmen envy. And this is a club of sorts. That meets at a bar of sorts. The bar is the legendary legends. Home to many screens at which men scream vile obscenities. With 20 Big Screen TV's and 100+ live football (soccer) matches each week, Legend's is the home of over 30 NYC Supporter Clubs and boast the largest collection of football memorabilia in the US. Comprehensive live coverage of the English Premier League, the Football League, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, La Liga, Serie A, Major League Soccer, top South American leagues, and ALL UEFA Championships League and Europa League matches. Located in Midtown on West 33rd Street, Legends serves American cuisine and offers catering, private parties, food delivery, happy hour, special events, and weekend brunch.

Smith & Mills

Tribeca

Tribeca's newest and tiniest addition, with some fascinating architectural details from yesteryear.

Riviera Cafe

West Village

Sports bar and cafe in Greenwich Village that favors the squads from our daft, annoying, ocassionally lovable cousins from Boston - Celtics, Bruins, Patriots, and the Red Stockings. Soccer fans also descend here to catch the big games and root, root, root for the Euro teams. Food is typical pub fare - including an excellent and popular brunch where locals shake of the night before. Out door seating in warm weather adds to the charm.

Lucky Jack's

Lower East Side

This bar—two bars, really—stretches from Allen to Orchard, right in the middle of the block, and features heavily-handed cocktails, a great selection of beer, and a downstairs lounge. The best nights are Fridays and Saturdays, when DJs take up a corner on the Orchard side of the bar and play some well-curated sets. The place gets packed, though, so bring your shoehorn.

Branch Ofc.

Bar with décor that takes you back to the 50s. Vintage photos, cash register and even a pinball machine. Inspired house cocktails, including eponymous Branch Ofc., a mix of Jameson, lime and bitters. Large patio makes for a great spot for cocktails when weather is warm.

Mother's Ruin

NoLIta

Wildly popular spot with the young and the restless. The kind that loves to pack themselves in to sardine cans to compete to have the loudest conversation or who best can safely convey the bespoke and inventive cocktails from bar to companion through the jostling crowds. A bit of a scene, but if that's your thing, then by all means this is the spot for you. Or if your bent is more anthropological it is wonderful place to observe the young and ambitious and their tawdry mating habits. Be sure to stay until closing, for then, you may get lucky, and have a chance to interview some as the crowd thins and mood loosens. .

Broadway Comedy Club

Hell's Kitchen

The Broadway Comedy Club in the Broadway Theater District and in the heart of Times Square features NYC comics who appear on Letterman, The Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, Mad TV, Conan O'Brien, HBO, Showtime, Comedy Central, and BET. The Chicago City Limits comedy troupe performs here on a regular basis, as does Lose Control, one of New York City's hottest variety performance troupes.

Drom

East Village

Drom is a multi-discipline entertainment venue with a bar, a sort of eclectic Turkish menu, and jazz performances that bend and flex the genre to its limits (along with world music and more).

Top Of The Standard

Meatpacking District

The rooftop bar of the Standard Hotel offers views from all angles, including a dizzying, 16-story down views from glass-floored sections of the room.

Provocateur

West Village

Hotel Gansevoort's swank nightclub with entrance between 13th and Ganesvoort Streets. It has been said that the men who started it - Michael Satsky and Brian Gefter - intended to "cater to women's every desire". Which may give you a sense of what transpires here. Beautifully designed space, international DJs spinning tunes, go-go dancers, expensive drinks, dudes from Wall Street, fashionistas, models, some Jersey shlubs, the occasional celeb, and expensive drinks.

Watermark Waterfront Bar

Financial District

A stunning 10,000 square foot event space at Pier 15 in lower Manhattan. With exceptional panoramic views of the East River, the Brooklyn and Williamsburg bridges and the Brooklyn skyline. Summertime finds a host of public events with live music, including craft beer and food festivals.

Greenwich Treehouse

West Village

The Greenwich Treehouse sits atop Village Natural restaurant, with a great window vista for people-watching and a curiously high bartop. The staff is friendly, the backroom hosts comedy nights, and the big screen always has the local game dialed up, but it bears mentioning that there is something, either in the air or the beer or the water, that dries out your lips and muddies the mind. Whether it's a spent air filter, brackish ice water, or the pile of birch trees behind the big screen, something in the Treehouse does not sit well with the allergic.

Amor y Amargo

Bitters-based bar by the Cienfuego folks, with libatious assistance lent by Bittermens and a menu of Spanish tapas from chef Luiz Gonzalez.
